Slouchy To Barrel Leg: Your Guide To Finding Jeans That Fit Every Vibe

Three things are certain in life: death, taxes, and the staple-status of good denim.

The journey to finding the right pair of jeans is a universal experience, but once you find them, you’ll never want to let them go. The best part is that while trends fluctuate (baggy and low-rise are the current go-to for many), the truth is that good denim will always be fashionable. It’s just about finding the pair (or pairs) for you and your vibe.

We know that process can feel a little daunting, so we teamed up with Target to break down a range of styles, and help you find yours.

High Rise Wide Leg Jeans

You can’t get much more chic than a good pair of well-fitting, dark wash, structured jeans.

Paired with a collared shirt and knit vest or jumper, they create the perfect corporate-casual ensemble. Wear them to the office, or use them as an opportunity to elevate your look for a family lunch or catch up with friends.

High Rise Flared Jeans

Some things never really go out of style, and flared, or bootleg, jeans are no exception. They were popular in the ‘60s and ‘70s, again in the ‘90s and early 2000s, and they're back with a vengeance in the 2020s.

Channel your inner Lorelai Gilmore with this dark wash, classic pair. Add a fun baby tee and lots of jewellery for a 2000s twist, or stay true to their name and wear them with boots and a leather jacket for a more classic look.

Low Rise Slouchy Jeans

Low-rise, baggy jeans are the jeans of the moment. They were a hit in the late ‘90s, again in the early 2000s, and have made another huge comeback in recent years. A slightly slouchy pair fits the brief without being overly baggy, meaning you can wear them almost anywhere—keep it casual with sneakers and a tee, or dress them up with heels and a blazer.

Ankle Length Skinny Jeans

While many are still not ready to revisit the skinny jean mayhem of the 2010s, there's no denying that they're coming back into the rotation for others. While the fluro hues of 2012 might not quite be back, when styled, classic blue skinny jeans can make for a put-together, simple look. Try them with ballet flats, or tucked into knee-high boots and you might just find yourself inspired to add them back into your wardrobe.

Barrel Leg Jeans

Barrel leg jeans have taken over TikTok, and people are divided. They’ve got a unique silhouette—baggy at the thighs and tapered at the ankles—so being a little skeptical is understandable, but if you give them a go, you might just find them to be your new favourite pair.

Their shape is exactly what makes barrel leg jeans look so good, fitting the baggy trend while still offering some shape and structure. Pair them with sandals and a tee or singlet for the ultimate cool girl look.

High Rise Straight Leg Jeans

The best thing about straight-leg jeans is that you can wear them with just about anything. Looking for a casual Friday fit? Wear them with ballet flats, a belt and a bag to match. Something a little more lowkey? Chuck on a knit and your fave sneakers and you’re good to go.

In a world of TikTok hauls, microtrends, and endless options at your fingertips, sometimes it’s best to get back to basics. Check out the range at Target to find your perfect pair.
